Decide Who You Will Be - Walk It Out Faithfully

Scripture is clear that the Christian life is not accidental. We do not drift into godliness; we walk in it. Again and again, the Bible calls God’s people to intentional, settled resolve shaped by faith and expressed through obedience.

“Choose this day whom you will serve” (Joshua 24:15). Joshua’s words were not a call to momentary emotion but to a decisive allegiance. The people of God were to set their direction, not merely their intentions.

In the New Testament, the call is even sharper. Those united to Christ have been given a new identity - “created after the likeness of God in true righteousness and holiness” (Ephesians 4:24). The question, then, is not whether we will live as someone, but who we have decided to be in light of the gospel.

Identity Precedes Behavior

The Christian does not strive to become someone in order to be accepted by God. In Christ, we are already accepted (Romans 5:1). Our obedience flows from identity, not insecurity. Paul consistently grounds exhortation in gospel reality: because you have been raised with Christ, therefore seek the things above (Colossians 3:1–5).

Deciding the type of person you want to be is not self-made moralism. It is aligning your life with what God has already declared to be true of you in Christ.

Faithfulness Is Proven in Small Obediences

Scripture also teaches that character is formed through faithfulness in the ordinary and unseen. Jesus says, “One who is faithful in a very little is also faithful in much” (Luke 16:10). Spiritual maturity is rarely forged in dramatic moments; it is built through daily, quiet obedience.

These “small wins” are not attempts to earn God’s favor. They are evidences of a heart being trained by grace (Titus 2:11–12). Opening the Word when no one is watching. Choosing restraint in speech. Taking a step toward reconciliation. Saying no to sin and yes to righteousness in a moment that feels insignificant - but is not.

Each small act of obedience reinforces what is true: this is who I am in Christ.

Perseverance Shapes a Steadfast People

The book of Hebrews presses this truth home. Believers are urged to “hold fast” and to “run with endurance” (Hebrews 10:23; 12:1). Endurance is not powered by grand resolutions but by steady faithfulness over time. A settled decision, proven by repeated obedience, produces a resilient and mature faith.

Decide and Then Walk

So decide the kind of person you will be - not according to cultural trends or personal ambition, but according to Christ. Decide to be faithful. Decide to be prayerful. Decide to be governed by Scripture and shaped by grace.

Then prove it - not to earn righteousness, but to live it out through small, obedient steps empowered by the Spirit.

“For it is God who works in you, both to will and to work for his good pleasure” (Philippians 2:13).

Long obedience in the same direction still matters.

And by God’s grace, it still transforms.
