The Guarded Tomb – Matthew 27:62–66

Matthew 27:62–66 takes us into the quiet darkness of Holy Saturday. Jesus has been crucified and buried, and the religious leaders remember His claim that He would rise again. Fearing that His disciples might steal the body and claim a resurrection, they ask Pilate to secure the tomb with a guard and seal the stone.

This message explores the irony of the scene: Jesus’ enemies do everything they can to prevent the resurrection, yet their efforts ultimately become another testimony to the reality of the empty tomb. The stone is sealed, the guards are stationed, and human power appears to have the final word but God's not finished.

This passage reminds us that no tomb, stone, seal, or human authority can thwart the purposes of God. What looks like silence and defeat is only the darkness before resurrection morning.

Watch the embedded video above and prepare your heart to celebrate the risen Christ, whose victory no power on earth could prevent.
