Greatness Through Servanthood – Matthew 20:20–28

In Matthew 20, Jesus confronts the disciples’ misunderstanding of greatness in the kingdom of God. After a request for power and prominence, Jesus turns their attention to a radically different way of living—one marked not by status or self-promotion, but by humility and service. In this message Jesus’ teaching that true greatness is found in becoming a servant.
At the center of this passage is the example of Christ Himself: “The Son of Man came not to be served but to serve, and to give His life as a ransom for many.” Jesus redefines leadership through sacrifice, love, and self-giving obedience.
This passage challenges us to examine our motives, reject worldly ideas of success, and follow the example of the Savior who laid down His life for others.
